How To Dress For Family Pictures...

We were definitely in need of some updated family photos, so this past Sunday we took a day trip up to Blowing Rock, NC to take a few. Of course, we picked the coldest day to go (ugh), but we totally bared through like champs (with the help of our winter coats) and we were able to get some really good shots of all of us! I really wanted to go with a theme, but I didn't want it to look too Fall or too Christmas-y, so instead I gave it a little twist and combined both!

When I chose our outfits, it all started with Justin's flannel buffalo check shirt in dark navy and bright red. And since I wanted to give him a layered look I added a navy/black striped thermal hoodie to wear underneath. From there it was obvious, I was going with cooler hues and pops of bright red to tone it down and add a little warmth. I also brought out black as an accent color with his beanie, Ryleigh's leggings, and my Hunter rain boots. My look on the other hand was completely opposite compared to Justin's---color wise. I chose to wear a simple white long sleeve tee underneath a grey cable knit cardigan, black hunter boots, and plaid navy/red scarf and navy beanie. Ryleigh's adorable outfit was able to balance all three of our looks together and compliment it perfectly!

So if you're planning your next family photo session and struggling with outfits, start with one and simply build from there for the others, and to also have everyone wear a common color somewhere (whether it's in a scarf, beanie, pair of gloves, or belt).
